Pre-Conference Faculty

1:00pm-1:45pm: Building Profitable and Defensible Compensation Models – Navigating Competition for Talent and Changing Compliance Obligations to Design and Implement the Future of Pay

Designing and managing compensation models for field and office team members isn’t optional—it’s mission-critical. Yet, even the most well-intentioned agency can – through lack of knowledge or diligence – design compensation models that create rather than eliminate risk (e.g., over or underpaying to recruit and retain talent, using pay models like day rates and pay per visit without complying with legal requirements, misclassifying workers, etc.). Agencies who get off on the right foot can also drift into non-compliance and fail to stay abreast of the changes to the legal and practical landscape – thereby exposing your agency to audits, costly penalties, or worse yet the inability to recruit and retain team members.

This intensive is designed to:

  1. Unpack compensation model options – including potential changes on the horizon for North Carolina agency employers in light of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Proposed Companionship and Live-In Exemption Regulations

  2. Identify key recruitment, performance, and retention drivers

  3. Identify compliance challenges and hidden risks in pay structures in Home Health, Hospice, and Private Duty – from live-in/24+ Hour/Family Care to Pay Per Visit models to misclassification to failure to pay for hours worked

  4. Identify tools and practical strategies to develop, implement, monitor, and revise one or more compensation models to stay on top of your compliance obligations and ahead of your competition.
